NSU College of Optometry is a four-year professional program that leads to the Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree. Doctors of Optometry are the major providers of primary vision care in America and are specially educated, clinically trained, and state licensed to examine the eyes for the presence or absence of vision problems, eye diseases, or other abnormalities. NSUCO is accredited by the Accreditation Council on Optometric Education of the American Optometric Association and is a member of the Association of Schools and Colleges of Optometry.

An admitted NSU College of Optometry student who satisfactorily completes the first two years of the four-year professional optometry program, who has met the basic admission standards of the College of Optometry, and satisfied the general education requirements of Northeastern State University, shall be eligible to receive the Bachelor of Science degree with a major in vision science. Students transferring into the College of Optometry who have not completed a bachelor's degree will be required to complete a bachelor's degree at the time of or prior to completion of the second year of the professional program.
